2022: Year of Tiger

Digital Illustration

Lunar New Year falls on February 1, 2022 and it is the year of the Tiger. While I’m still learning how to write Chinese, let alone be able to do calligraphy (or script), the character for “Tiger” works well as the “stripes” on the tiger. Lunar New Year is my favorite time of the year because of all the celebrations my family and friends do, from giving/receiving lai see (red envelopes) to indulging Asian dishes and performing lion dances.

Bonus (on the right): I’ve been working on a type for fun and really come to enjoy the process. It’s drawn here, but I’m working on a clean version and hopefully will have a font file out this year.  Hope you get rich!

An orange tiger in crouching pose. On its back and its head, there is a Chinese character for "tiger" that blends into stripes. The background is green with lighter vertical green stripes.
Lettering of "Lunar New Year" in fancy font on top fo red background. The text is layered in 3 colors, yellow, orange, and red, front to back. The background has darker red outlines of peonies and leaves.
